Alert Service Dogs trains medial alert dogs for children and adults who are insulin-dependent Type 1 diabetics. Our alert service dogs are hand picked by our Chief Trainer, Julie Noyes, an evaluator, mentor, and adjunct instructor listed with FEMA. Julie has over a decade of experience training professional alert dogs. She has all of the skills necessary to provide a diabetic's best friend.

A Child's Best friend!

When your child has diabetes, you can never stop thinking about them, but with a properly trained medical alert dog you can relax a little more each day as it grows to know your child's signs and smells. Most parents worry that their child will be unable to lead an independent life, and with the exception of having a dog with them, these children can start to feel self-reliant, free to be more active and fully enjoy living life.

Alert Service Dogs

The truth is that though fully trained, alert dogs do require almost daily training reinforcement and practice in the form of games from their families and those they assist. Subsequently, a large part of ASD's interaction is with our clients and their dog helping develop a routine in their home and daily lives. We will help teach you to keep your service dog's skills finely tuned. Properly trained scent dogs have been shown to have 85-90% accuracy in the environments for which they are trained. For diabetes alert dogs these environments include at home, in public, and nighttime alerting. Each dog is unique and may have different strengths and weaknesses. ASD evaluates the dog to ensure it has the right temperament to be a reliable scent dog and helps the owner to grow together with the dog.

Buster and his owner

Buster has been a great addition to our family! Every day now he is alerting us to either low or high blood sugar. Our son's A1C dropped 1.2 points in three months, with no change in our diabetes management except Buster's alerts. He is so gentle with the boys - it is a relief to have another set of eyes helping us with our son's diabetes. The training has been fun - the entire family has enjoyed the process.
